Meaningful Library Research
Another long gap between posts, sorry about that. I guess that’s what happens when you get busy with your tenure file. Tenure for librarians? Yes, strange but true. The sad thing is that most academic research in the field of librarianship is total bullshit, done only because it’s a requirement for tenure. In Search of the Sexy Male Librarian
When you hear “sexy librarian” I know what you think. Female, funky glasses, prim skirt, etc. etc…
But what about sexy male librarians? Do they exist? What’s the stereotype? The closest thing I could find is here.
I’m dying to know: what would a sexy male librarian look like? Or is such a stereotype impossible to represent?

Sexy Librarians vs. Sexy Writers
In honor of my new crush I thought I’d do a post about sexy writers. Imagine my surprise when my super-librarian Internet search skills turned up such a paltry sample of “sexy writer” photos, news stories, blog posts, etc. Yes it’s true, sexy librarians far outnumber sexy writers (at least on the Internet).
So if you were at a party and trying to flirt it up, would you be more likely to introduce yourself as a writer or a librarian? Which label would arouse more interest in a potential date?

Defining the Sexy Librarian
This 1978 photo by Cindy Sherman — Untitled Film Still #13 — has got to be the sexiest librarian image of all time. It’s amazing how a simple black and white photograph can capture both the innocence and the repressed sensuality of the demure librarian. If I had an extra million dollars around I’d rush out and buy the original print.
